Sony Laptop Models - Great Aesthetics But Relatively costly

Sony Vaio Y Series Vpc-Y218Fx follows the basic laptop from Sony World and it has a standard recipe of a colorful lid, chiclet keyboard and rounded display hinges. The hinges has power button on the left side and connection for the power cable on the right. These ingredients give the laptop a snazzy look but I was disappointed to see that the build ability of this machine is not as solid as that seen on other Sony Vaio systems like the 16.4-inch Vaio Vpcf12Afm/H or 15.5-inch Vaio Vpc-Ea24Fm/W. In the tell model, the battery was loose in the housing which created some insecure moments. Also, the 2 narrow hinges which hold the screen in place did not forestall the screen from wobbling when it was nudged from the sides.

The comfortable keyboard of this laptop from Sony World has keys which are widely spaced away from each other and hence there are not any mishits. The buttons sound clacky and aren't as solid as some of the other Sony Vaio keyboards out there. Above this keyboard, there are 2 tiny buttons for quick launch functions. One will open up Sony's Media Gallery app which gives you access to videos, photos and music. The other one is labeled sustain and it gets you Vaio Care for recovery, diagnostic and troubleshooting tools.

The touch pad of the Sony Vaio Y Series Vpc-Y218Fx is very responsive but there is no sustain for multitouch gestures. This is a big disappointing because a lot of other laptops today have it. On the consuming side, the constructor has given a vertical bar on the right side for scrolling up and down straight through the pages or documents. Mouse buttons are quite narrow and they are positioned close to the bottom curved edge of the system. They are angled comfortably and don't make much noise when pressed.

Sony Vaio Y Series Vpc-Y218Fx is one of those Sony laptop models having a 13.3 inches display (diagonal) and it gives a resolution of 1,366x768 pixels. This is not the brightest of displays out the videos still play smoothly and the colors too look vivid. There is a speaker bar located above the keyboard which has tinny audio ability but it is difficult to complain about this since laptops don't normally produce big sound.

The connectivity options on such Sony laptop models are quite decent. There are three Usb 2.0 ports, but no eSata. For video connectivity, you get Vga and Hdmi port. Apart from that, there are two media card slots and 34mm ExpressCard slot.
